Answers to common questions about using ALPHA.
How does ALPHA use my microphone?
The microphone opens only when you ask: hold the microphone button (or press Ctrl+Space), or press it once to start and again to stop. While it is open, a red “Listening…” banner is always visible.
In conversation mode, ALPHA listens again after it replies and stops after 20 seconds of quiet, or when you tap the button. Your speech is turned into text on your PC, and you can edit the text before it is sent. ALPHA currently understands spoken English.
If ALPHA cannot hear you, check Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone, and make sure desktop apps are allowed to use the microphone.
What do I need to approve?
Anything that changes something on your PC: opening an app, typing text, opening a website or closing a window. ALPHA shows the plan in plain language and waits. Choose Approve to go ahead or Not now to stop.
Steps that only look, such as listing what is in a folder, do not need a click. An approval expires after 10 minutes, so an old plan is never carried out by surprise. You can answer an approval by voice, but steps that cannot be undone always need a click.
What data leaves my PC?
The text of your instructions and your recent conversation go to ALPHA’s cloud service (Google Cloud, Mumbai region) and to OpenAI so ALPHA can plan. The text of ALPHA’s replies goes to OpenAI to produce its voice.
Your microphone audio and your folder listings stay on your PC. The full details are in the privacy notice.
Can ALPHA close my windows?
Only windows ALPHA opened itself, and only after you approve. It never closes your other windows and never force-closes anything. If an app asks whether to save your changes, that question stays with you.
What if ALPHA gets something wrong?
ALPHA checks the result of each step. If a step fails, it tells you why in plain words and you can try again. If it cannot be sure what happened, it asks you to review rather than repeating the step on its own.
How do I uninstall ALPHA?
Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find ALPHA, select the “…” menu and choose Uninstall.
To also remove the downloaded voice models and local settings, delete the %LOCALAPPDATA%\ALPHA folder afterwards.
